Without a peaceful heart there is no peace of mind. Those lacking peace of mind seek to obtain it through war.
Speaking of competition... It does not stem from a peaceful mind and does not reflect a peaceful heart. As a mechanism for growth, competition has outlived its usefulness to the human organism and now has a net-negative impact.
Consider the example of the golfer who learns that competing against others negatively impacts his score. He may progress/mature to 'competing against himself' as a better way. But to compete against oneself is for one part of us to win at the expense of another part losing. Is it any wonder that most modern diseases have an auto-immune component?
If you think I'm nuts consider this definition of competition in nature, from the Farlex Free Online Dictionary: ' Ecology The simultaneous demand by two or more organisms for limited environmental resources, such as nutrients, living space, or light.'
At a minimum we need to improve our use of the word. More importantly, we must learn to cooperate instead of compete - there is an amazing bounty to be reaped once we learn not to self-sabotage!
