Help Sierra Club BC provide successful BC schools with student sustainability leaders. Training and honoraria will be provided to help improve BC school’s level of sustainability!

Sierra Club BC training and honoraria will be provided to BC student sustainability leaders to help improve their high schools’ level of ecological and social well-being!

Goal: $10,000
Phase 1 Deadline: June 30th, 2008

Price: For every $2 donated, $1 will enable Sierra Club to engage and train future student leaders and $1 will go into an honoraria fund, which will be divided between those students who successfully submit results after leading their school to:

 

  1. Calculate 2 Indicators of their school’s sustainability. These could include their annual green house gas emissions, energy and water consumption, percentage of school purchases that are ethical and local or any 2 other Indicators in the High School Sustainability Assessment Framework. (To qualify, they must submit completed SHS Indicator Calculator for E-1, E-2, W-1, EW-1b, and/or EW-2)
  2. Co-facilitate a meeting of a Sustainability Advisory Committee which includes administration, staff, parents and students to envision their school’s current and ideal level of sustainability, and create a list of common priority areas to assess and improve. (To qualify, they must submit completed contact sheet of SAC members, an asset map, sustainability vision and list of priority indicators to assess and/or improve.)
  3. Run a project that helps students reduce their personal or school’s green house gas emissions and track those reductions. (To qualify, they must submit a “Success Story” report about the initiative with results of project and at least one photo.)
  4. Recruit 2 grade 9 or 10 students from their school committed to participate in Sustainable High Schools youth training during the summer and fall of 2008 and lead the SHS project at their school and across the province. (To qualify,they must submit 2 completed Youth Action Gathering application forms)


Student leaders: Earn recognition for your school, an honorarium for yourself and have us celebrate your sustainability initiatives!

Donors: contribute $250 and be recognized in the Sierra Club BC’s Education E-Newsletter and website!
